    • Competition Law

    • Undersecretary for Commerce and Economic Development Greg told SCMP that the competition law is not expected to take full effect till 2014 at the earliest.
    • So said it would be a great pity if the business sector hindered the progress of the bill.
    • It is reported the Legco bills committee has scheduled 37 meetings for scrutiny of the term. Committee chairman Andrew Leung said extra meetings would be inserted during the Legco’s summer recess next July if progress was too slow.

    •  Although it is widely expected the bill will be passed by the Legco before July 2012, people are worried that the lawmakers may not be able to pass the bill before July 2012. If it is the case, the legislative process will have to be restarted from scratch in the new four-year term, which means the long-awaited competition law will then be further delayed.
