    News Content

    • A mainland couple who scuffled with tour guide on Saturday reportedly received a HK$120,000 in compensation by the tourist agency.
    • Tourism sector legislator Paul Tse confirmed the couple were paid but did not state the amount.
    • The couple who vowed to seek for legal action however said it was a misunderstanding and accepted the tour guide’s apology before entering the Kowloon City court on Monday.

    Questions

    • Tourism sector legislator Paul Tse said paying tourists to settle the dispute may inspire copycat.
    • Mr. Tony Liu, chairman of the Police Inspectors’ Association said given compensation had been offered to the couple before the case proceeded in court. He said the case could raise questions about whether the legal process was being abused.
    • Settling criminal dispute via civil compensation could be very dangerous, as it may jeopardize justice.
