    • CE election spending limits proposed to increase

    News Content

    • The government proposed to raise the election expenses limit for the Chief Executive election from HK$9.5 million to HK$ 13 million.
    • The proposed raise was mainly due to (1) inflation; (2) increase in the number of Election Committee from 800 to 1,200 for the March 2012 election. The government believes the increase could help the candidates’ message out.

    • The proposed raise is not justified, as CE election is only a small-circle election, i.e. only 1,200 people are allowed to vote.
    • The proposed raise will widen the gap between pro-establishment camp and pan-democrat camp’s resources in the election. It institutionalizes the injustices.
