    • Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge Project

    News Content

    • The court of First Instance ruled yesterday that as there was an absence of a separate analysis of likely environmental conditions without the construction of the HK-Zhuhai-Macau bridge, therefore, the director of environmental protection had no power to grant the environmental permit for the project.
    • In response to the ruling, the EPD said it was seeking legal advice. The project will then be definitely delayed.
    • Mr. Justice Joseph Fok ruled that the absence of the analysis meant the environmental impact assessment reports (EIA) approved by Wong in 2009 did not meet the required standard.

    • The ruling refreshed public query if the Advisory Council on the Environment, which is appointed by Chief Executive and passed the EIA report in Oct 2009, is an effective environmental watchdog.
    • The ruling reveals the EIA reports are less than satisfactory.
